Maintenance and Facilities Manager

We are actively recruiting for a Full-time Maintenance and Facilities Manager to join our Supply Chain team in our our Toronto Plant.  This role will be primarily assigned to the Day Shift operations, but flexibility with hours of work is required to support the operational demands across shifts as required.

Job Summary:

This position will be responsible for Coordinating and Managing Maintenance and Facilities for the Toronto campus and other operating departments within Wakefield sites.

In addition, this position will have key accountability and responsibility for Wakefield’s Risk Mitigation Activities, including Risk Assessment Permitting, as it pertains to Building and Facilities Maintenance, as well as the effective organization and management of Maintenance/Facilities Records to meet ISO 14001 and ISO 9001 requirements.

Lead and participate in all exploration and development of key change initiatives supporting continuous improvement or new opportunity development from a maintenance and facilities perspective.

Key Accountabilities:

Health & Safety:

  • Work with HSSE team to ensure all engineering, maintenance, contractor and other technical functions are executed in compliance with HSSE policies and parameters
  • Participate in the JHSC to understand and address HSSE issues which can be resolved by appropriate maintenance follow up or capital.
  • Ensuring all contractors are aligned and compliant to HSSE standards and that all capital work is completed in accordance with Wakefield’s safety standards.

Maintenance:

  • The development, implementation, and continuous improvement of a maintenance reliability program centered on a balance between operator and trades based on maintenance tasks.
  • Utilize Fast Maintenance CMMS Maintenance Management Software for ongoing Preventive Maintenance of operational assets and Work Orders to meet Safety and Regulatory Code requirements.
  • Develop, monitor and work in continuous improvement fashion for maintenance Key Performance Indicators to maximize capital (asset and labour).
  • Manage planned Repairs & Maintenance budget.
  • Orchestrate and oversee a trades apprenticeship program as appropriate and where applicable.
  • Support the Operations Team Leaders and Regional Logistics Managers for the delivery of day to day maintenance requirements, with technical support and leadership.
  • In conjunction with the Production Operations Manager identify and develop an ongoing plan for the training of trades to keep current in safety, new technology, methods, codes, and other technical requirements.
  • Development and maintenance of Equipment & Facility library containing all necessary documentation for:
    • Machine & equipment maintenance manuals and Standard Operating Procedures
    • Drawings and documentation for facility, utility services, electrical power distribution, P&ID, EASR, HVAC, Tank Instrumentation and PLC logic

Facilities:

  • Coordinate and manage all facilities maintenance tasks, developing a process to stay connected to occupant needs, and addressing through proactive maintenance plans and planned capital initiatives as required.
  • Develop and partner with Regional Logistics Managers for common facilities maintenance structure for all Wakefield locations.  Provide contractor standards and compliance framework and provide technical expertise for oversight of significant change/asset upgrade initiatives.
  • Develop and oversee processes to ensure adherence of facilities to regulatory and Wakefield-standards of compliance for HSSE and facility optimization including office space utilization.
  • Negotiate utility contracts with local/ regional suppliers.
  • Oversee plant energy conservation programs to optimize utility usage.

Capital:

  • Liaise with internal customers and our engineering group to develop and prioritize the annual capital plan.
  • Effective and timely execution of capital priorities within the plan.
  • Where appropriate, projects to be chartered, with sponsorship map, resources roles and responsibilities defined, and communicated on plant notice boards and through weekly team/crew communication meetings.
  • Conducting the required inspections/audits related to codes and regulatory requirements, and company policies, and ensuring appropriate capital (or maintenance activity) is undertaken to ensure compliance.

Key Competencies:

  • Leadership experience with the ability to mentor, coach and develop others.
  • Ability to translate ideas and concepts from non-technical personnel and develop a technical scope and design to meet requirements/needs.
  • Strong orientation to innovate and continuously investigate emerging technologies to potentially leverage within Wakefield operations.
  • Ability to investigate and identify root cause in complex technical issues.
  • Strong Risk Management and HSSE skills
  • Positive leadership example including excellent team and communication skills, and the ability to collaborate, impact and influence in areas where no direct authority exists.

Direct Managerial / Supervisory Responsibility

  • Provide direction, coaching, mentoring, training and work flow supervision to Maintenance Technicians (including apprentices)
  • Work collaboratively with Plant Operations management & Engineering to ensure all plant operations staff continuous knowledge and skill building to support operational maintenance tasks in assigned roles
  • Positive collaborative partnering with Regional Logistics Managers to continuously develop skills required to support facilities/operational maintenance tasks

Education / Experience:

  • Mechanical Engineer or Mechanical Engineering Technician.
  • Minimum of 7+ years in a manufacturing environment with automation or semi-automation. 
  • Experience with Programming Logic Controllers (PLC) is preferred.
  • Experience with troubleshooting controls systems issues and familiar with configuring/designing Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) systems.
  • Strong Project Management and organizational skills.
  • Strong Risk Management and Risk Assessment competencies.
  • Previous supervisory experience is preferred.

Working Conditions:

  • Office and Manufacturing/Warehousing environment 
  • Regular plant operations/warehouse/truck yard environment which would require the use of all necessary PPE (safety glasses, hard hats, safety boots, reflective clothing etc.)
  • Extended hours during peak times and weekend work may be required while overseeing operations.
