JOB SUMMARY:

The Supply Chain Manager has overall responsibility for ensuring products are safely delivered to customers in a timely and cost-effective manner. The incumbent will be responsible for cost and quality of the distribution and transportation operations (direct Wakefield and/or third party) in a specified region, including inventory management in Wakefield and/or third party warehousing. This position reports to the Director, Distribution Operations with strong supporting relationship to the Manager, Inventory & Demand Planning, Quality and other Regional Supply Chain Managers. This position partners closely with the Regional Sales Manager and sales team to ensure we are continuously meeting customer needs, and continuously improving our approach to market.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
  • Lead the Central regional based portion of the Wakefield transportation/logistics function, including both Wakefield truck fleet management and 3rd party transportation providers.
  • Collaborate with the Planning team, Customer Care, Quality and other Regional Operations teams to facilitate the smooth flow of goods through Wakefield’s Supply Chain.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement of departmental processes and policies designed to improve customer satisfaction and/or reduce our cost to serve
  • Maintain existing and develop new relationships with 3rd party providers of Transportation and Warehousing services for Wakefield
  • Interact with all levels of the Wakefield organization to identify and implement growth priorities, address immediate business issues, and to evolve the business to meet long term objectives.
  • Partner with the other Supply Chain personnel and the Director, Distribution Operations to develop, implement, and assist in the management of broader national distribution and inventory management strategies.
  • Overall responsibility for Wakefield Health & Safety for the Transportation and Distribution team in Central Region, working closely with the Supply Chain Management team to evolving HSSE policies/procedures and to ensure a continued culture of safety amongst all Wakefield staff and third party contractors conducting work on behalf of or for Wakefield.
  • Facilitate TDG (Transporting Dangerous Goods) training every 3 years.
  • Facilitate Fork Lift training every 3 years.
  • Facilitate WHMIS (Workplace hazardous materials information system) annually.
  • Handle any escalated problems that arise within the Warehouse/Distribution region. Partner with Plant Engineer & Facilities Manager to continuously review facilities maintenance protocols and to identify/implement significant capital projects
  • Partner with the Manager, Procurement and Business Analysis to ensure regional operations continue to meet evolving Wakefield quality standards
  • Participate in ongoing project teams to identify opportunities/requirements for new standard operating procedures and responsible to ensure full staff awareness and compliance with all quality processes
  • Ensure strong business continuity plan for regional operations
  • Special projects as required

DIRECT MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Provide direction, support, coaching, mentoring, training and work flow supervision to all department members
  • Create an environment that encourages open and honest communication as well as personal and career development
  • Responsible for the supervision, evaluation and development of the Warehouse Supervisor, Warehouse Lead Hand(s), Transportation Planner and frontline staff

EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
  • Post-secondary education in a related field is an asset
  • Proven ability to positively lead direct reports and collaborate cross-functionally
  • Proven positive relationship development and management with customers
  • A minimum of 5 years Supply Chain Management experience, Transportation and Logistics specific expertise would be an asset
